Engineering Community Mourns the Loss of Colleague and Friend Bobby T. White, P.E.

Binkley & Barfield, Inc. (BBI) is saddened to announce the loss of Bobby T. White, P.E. Many grew to know Bobby through his 53 years of engineering work, where he was a great and conscientious colleague. We know that we speak for all of his family, friends and colleagues when we say he will be greatly missed.

Bobby was proud of his country and a patriotic retiree of the U. S. Army, where he achieved rank of Master Sergeant.  His passion for his career was emulated as he actively participated, holding offices year after year, in SAME, TSPE, Lions Club and a Regent for Lamar University, his alma mater. For more than 17 years, he worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) attaining the position of Senior Resident Engineer supervising design and construction of highway projects. After working for TxDOT, Bobby joined BBI in 1976 where he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer in charge of transportation and bridge projects. He retired in 2013 where he was honored by the State of Texas for more than 50 years of service as a Professional Engineer by our Governor and several State Representatives.

“Bobby was a lot more than just a 37 year employee of Binkley & Barfield, Inc.  He was an integral part of our company serving as a Stockholder, a valuable member of our Board of Directors, a Corporate Officer and most of all, a gentleman.  He was a “Loyal, Trusted and True Company Man”.  He was a highly respected Professional Engineer in our Houston Area and the State of Texas. He was an outstanding mentor to many young engineers that worked for him on several of Houston’s most prestigious transportation systems.  Bobby was “one of a kind” and will be remembered by many in our engineering community.  He was a close friend of mine and I will miss him.” said Larry Barfield, PE, F.NSPE, President and Chairman of the Board.

Everyone who knew Bobby and worked alongside him will remember him with great fondness. When all is said and done, it’s the people that you meet that really matter and colleagues like Bobby are something very special; you don’t come across many of them and when you do, they leave a lasting impression.

  1. Years ago (1975-1978) Bobby was First Sergeant of the 808th Pipeline Engineer Company. I was company commander at the time and no one ever had a better first sergeant, friend and advisor. I just learned of his passing several years ago. He was a fine soldier and friend.
