BBI’s Dave Hamilton, PE attended the Greater Houston Partnership-sponsored State of the County Luncheon that took place Thursday, September 13 at the NRG Center. Judge Ed Emmett was the key note speaker, who gave the State of the County address, sharing his thoughts on the outlook and future for Harris County. Judge Emmett addressed many of the area’s recent challenges, including those caused by Harvey, and encouraged a proactive approach to solutions, including the new bond-financed flood control projects.
Besides the need for a new approach to flood control, Judge Emmett also addressed the need for improvements to current transportation systems in Harris County, a better county tax system, an improved mental health care system, and more future participation in international economic development.
Luncheon attendees included a diverse group of area elected officials, as well as community and business leaders from across the region. Harris County is currently the largest county in Texas and serves as the economic and business center of Houston.
