In honor of April being National Safe Digging Month, BBI Austin’s Brian Rice, PE, and Jerilyn Green recently attended a City of San Marcos proclamation signing by Mayor Jane Hughson about safe digging awareness on Monday, April 1.
A recent survey revealed more than 40 percent of homeowners who plan to dig this year will put themselves and others at risk by not calling 811 before starting. Making a free call to 811 before digging for home improvement projects—including landscaping or installing a mailbox—can prevent damage to underground utility lines and keep communities safe.
If your DIY home improvement projects include tasks such as planting shrubs and trees, installing a fence or patio, or anything else requiring digging, make sure that you call 811 a few days in advance to have the approximate location of buried utilities marked before breaking ground!
