National Public Works Week Project Highlight: City of Houston’s 69th Street Wastewater Treatment Plant!
BBI has a long history of providing engineering services at the 69th Street Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) for the City of Houston. The WWTP is the City’s largest wastewater treatment plant, permitted for a daily average flow of 200 million gallons per day (MGD) and 2-hour peak flow of 400 MGD. BBI has completed multiple projects at the plant involving rehabilitation and replacement of mechanical and process equipment, upgrade for electrical and instrumentation, as well as plant hydraulic evaluations and expansion assessment.
The BBI team recently completed the 69th Street WWTP Improvements Package No. 5, which involved the final design for replacement and renewal of the wastewater treatment process instruments, control equipment, and associated electrical conduits for the entire wastewater treatment plant, including the lift station, headworks, flow distribution controls, oxygen reactors, clarifiers, and sludge thickeners.
BBI successfully accomplished its goals to 1) replace the obsolete, abandoned wastewater treatment process instrumentation and control valves in order to restore the automatic process control functions of the oxygen reactors; 2) replace the flow distribution flow meters and pneumatic control valves with hydraulic control valves in order to balance flow distribution to each oxygen reactor trains; and 3) improve process functions, operation flexibility and efficiency of the plant operations.
