National Engineers Week Spotlight: Megan Jackson, PE

THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT ROUTES TO TAKE IN ENGINEERING. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE STRUCTURAL?

I was always building things as a kid out of objects I found around the house, like VHS tapes or scrap wood. I also really enjoyed math and physics when I got to high school. When I was choosing Civil Engineering my Freshman year, the desire to someday design bridges ultimately led to that decision.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE GIRLS WHO WANT TO BE AN ENGINEER WHEN THEY GROW UP?

Don’t be afraid to speak up, whether that be asking questions, disagreeing with someone, or voicing your opinion.

WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE BINKLEY & BARFIELD PROJECTS TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF?

My favorite project was the Bridge Replacement projects over Brays Bayou. These are the first four bridges I have signed/sealed as a PE, and now I am seeing them go to construction, and it is exciting.

YOU FIND A GENIE IN A LAMP AND HAVE BEEN GRANTED ONE WISH. WHAT WOULD YOUR WISH BE?

I would wish for a superpower of teleportation, so I no longer have to drive or sit in traffic.
