At their January meeting, ASCE’s Houston Branch recognized Paul Voiles, PE, PTP, F.ASCE, as the recipient of the 2023 Houston Branch Award of Honor. The Award of Honor is presented to an individual who has demonstrated continuous support to ASCE at the branch, section, and society levels. It is the highest recognition that the Houston Branch can bestow on one of its members. Congratulations, Paul, and thank you for your lasting positive impact on the Houston Branch!
Paul is the Vice President of Transportation at Binkley & Barfield | DCCM. He began his career with Binkley & Barfield | DCCM in 2014 as a Sr. Project Manager. Paul is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas with more than 24 years of experience providing extensive engineering and project management expertise relating to major highways, toll roads, county and municipal roadways, port facilities, bridges, and airports. He has managed projects involving schematic layouts, preliminary engineering, final design, and construction phase services. He has completed major project assignments for TxDOT, the Harris County Toll Road Authority, Harris County, Fort Bend County, Brazoria County, and the City of Houston.
Not only is Paul a great manager of his projects, but he is also an exceptional manager of his team. He empowers his team by listening to their needs, encouraging them to lead themselves, and ensuring they are pushed to their greatest potential. Paul is a man of little words until he needs to give a presentation. That is when he shines. For example, if you ask him how the weather is, he will respond with “good,” but if you ask him to give a presentation about the weather for the last 7 days, he will present his findings backed with data, spreadsheets, charts, and predictions for the upcoming weather. The man loves his research and spreadsheets!
Some may be surprised to know that Paul is an avid collector. He has a 1968 Pontiac Firebird, a 1968 Mercury Cougar, a Dodge Durango Supercharger (with 710 HP), and a Jeep Grand Cherokee (with 475 HP) that his wife drives. Also (due to a non-disclosure agreement, we can’t give you an exact count), Paul collects guns, including several World War II rifles that were a significant component of winning the war.
Paul is not the only accomplished person in his family. His wife Lisa, a fellow Kansas Jayhawk Alumni, is an astronaut trainer for NASA. Although she can’t quite seem to train Paul, she CAN train “rocket scientists.”
If you can’t find Paul at the office, just look for him at Minute Maid Park, cheering on the Astros with his kids, Jack and Ella.
